Comment: I believe these formations to be ground moraine that has been covered in grasses.

15 * The large mountain in the background on the right is Mt. of the Holy Cross, elevation 14,005 feet. * 2048 x 1536 * (1.31MB)

16 * At mile 3.63 of the hike and after 3,100 feet of vertical gain, you reach Deluge Lake, a glacially-formed esker near 12,800 feet.  The water was extremely cold. * 2048 x 1536 * (1.5MB)
