Wow, it's been too long
It's been a really long time since I've written in my blog, mostly due to a very busy travel schedule. Since my last update, I've been on vacation to Indiana, Vermont and in-and-around Colorado with Carrie, and work trips to South Dakota, Arkansas, and Idaho. I'm currently in the process of uploading pictures from each of these trips.

In the meantime, click here for pictures from my climb of the Arkansas highpoint and click here for pictures from around the Arkansas State Capital building. In addition, here are two photos from the Arkansas highpoint and from our Colorado vacation with Greg and Kim:

Hoosier Hill
For the first time in my life, I've knowingly made it to the highest point in a given state. Yesterday, I went to Hoosier Hill, the highest point in Indiana, elevation 1,257 feet above sea level. Hoosier Hill is located in eastern Indiana near the Ohio border. The highpoint of Indiana is located below the lowest county highpoint in Colorado. There was no difficulty in summitting, it was more just a matter of wanting to complete it. Here are some pictures:

New Trick
For the first time, I'm updating my site remotely. I'm currently sitting in Indianapolis on my mother's computer. It's now two days post Christmas. I'm going to head out to the Indiana highpoint, Hoosier Hill. This will be my first state highpoint, albeit very low with a total elevation of 1,257 feet above sea level. Unfortunately, I couldn't recruit any of my friends for the trip. There lack of love for highpointing is evident.

Christmas was good this year. Got a Tissot watch from my dad and my mom purchased my ski pass for this year. I got a little money and my grandmother got me a new Colts hooded sweatshirt. On Christmas day, I saw my cousin Erika's child, Caroline, born September 2, 2005. She's one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen - and I'm not really that into children. I actually held her, which is a big step for me. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from that day or I would post them. I also saw another cute kid, Henry, my good friends Ryan and Angela's child, born September 11, 2005. It's very strange to me that my friends are having children.

Also on Christmas day, I past the one thousand hit mark on the site. However, for some reason my counter doesn't count all visitors so I've actually been over a thousand for quite a while now. Well, I'll ftp this now and see if it works.

It's been a long time
It's been a really long time since my last entry. I've been extremely busy with travel and such. And again, I'm off on another excursion, this one to Indiana for the Holidays and then onto Vermont for a little ice skiing. I'll try and update the site while I'm out of town. Later

My Poor Car
The Honda took one on the chin the other day while cruising down the highway. We were having a freakish cold front move through which brought 90+ MPH winds along the foothills. As I was driving along, I hear a large thud against the drivers side of the car. I immediately think that I've been hit with something and I'm probably severely dented. A few seconds later, I notice my back left window looks like this:
Thankfully, the tint on the window held it together enough that it didn't just shatter everywhere. I put the tape on once I got to the office to give it some added tension. Hopefully, it'll last until the window gets repaired tomorrow afternoon.

GIT
Scott A. Wisher, Geologist-in-Training. That's my new title after receiveing word that I passed the first portion of the professional geologists licensure exam. The second half of the test is administered on March 3, 2006. I'm going to get studying now. Hopefully, I'll pass that test and become Scott A. Wisher, Professional Geologist (PG). Hopefully, there'll be a pay raise involved with the new initials.

On a wholly separate note, the Colts continue their quest for the perfect season today against the hapless Tennessee Titans. I hope that the Colts don't have a mental and physical letdown since Tennessee is such a mediocre team on paper. I doubt they will.

The Day of Trey
As most of you know, I've been listening to Phish since approximately 1993. Trey Anastasio was the longtime leader of Phish prior to the breakup. Trey is now out on his own with a new band, 70 Volt Parade. When my friend Joe and I were skiing last Friday, I came up with the idea to head up to Boulder the next day in attempt to meet Trey at KBCO, a local radio station where I knew he was performing. Joe concurred, as did his wife Alissa. We headed up to Boulder on Saturday afternoon and arrived at KBCO around 1230. Not long after our arrival, Trey and his whole band rolled up in a large blue van. Trey exited and proceeded to shoot the shit with us for about ten minutes. It was one of the biggest thrills of my life. Trey is a rock god to me. He signed my Vegoose ticket, commented how Vegoose was a really good time, told me a little bit about the new drummer in 70 Volt Parade, and was gracious enough to take a few pictures with Alissa, Joe, and I.

Later that night, we went and saw 70 Volt Parade at the Fillmore Theatre in Denver. It was a sick show. That was my third time seeing this incarnation of a Trey-led band. They are not Phish, but are very good. Plus, it's good to see Trey in a smaller venue like it used to be in the early days of Phish. Overall and needless to say, a great day.

Happy Thanksgiving
The tryptophan is about to start working it's magic.

For the second time last night, I saw Walk the Line, the story of Johnny Cash's early career. It's an amazing movie. You really feel like that's Johnny and June singing up there, not Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. The movie is so great, in fact, that this is the first time that I've ever seen the same movie in a movie theatre. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The Finale of Kickball
Well, last Saturday the kickball season came to a glorious end with the tournament of champions. We played our first game at 10 AM, I had my first beer at 945. That just tells you what kind of day (and ultimately night) it was going to be. We crushed a hapless team in the first round 17 to 8. I went 2 for 3 with a double, three runs kicked in, and two runs scored. Unfortunately, in our second game we lost 1 to 0. We put up a valiant effort, but made just one mistake that cost us our chance to advance to the next round. I don't think any of us were too heartbroken.

By this time, most of us were three sheets to the wind and just wanted to grill out. After the cook out, we proceeded to the local tavern for the awards ceremony. Fortunately, we won the prize awarded to the team which best embodies the spirit of kickball. Our prize: a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon. The photos below were apparently taken during our victory celebration. Don't ask me, I don't remember.

Let the Skiing Begin
Made my first trip into the mountains today for some skiing. Overall, I had a good day. Took one really nasty spill. This year, I'm trying telemark skiing. Therefore, I'm back to square one as far as learning goes. I spent most of my day on green runs, with an occasional diversion to blue. This is still really early season, so the snow is not the best. Plus, not many runs were open so there were hundreds of people cramped into a small space. I'll wait a few weeks before I go back.

Sudoku
I've discovered a new game, Sudoku, a Japanese numbers game of logic. I'm thoroughly hooked. Click here to start playing at an easy level. The point of the game is to complete nine 3x3 squares with the numbers 1 through 9 without ever repeating a number in a box, column, or row. Check out the website for further explanation.

In addition, the videos in the November 4 entry are now streaming and have been compressed to a point where most people will be able to watch without much use of disk space.

Still working on my extensive Vegoose page. It's not quite complete, but will be soon. Carrie and I got our picture taken at Vegoose and it got put in CTC Magazine. I was Dr. Peter Venkman of Ghostbusters fame and she was Carrie Catherine, a bad catholic school girl. Here's a copy of the picture.

My First Videos
Here's a new thing that I'm attempting to add to the website: video. I took this video during Trey's acoustic set during Vegoose. He is singing with Jennifer Hartswick, a world class trumpet player who is currently singing backup in Trey's band. We were actually close enough to Trey for me to film this normally, but I decided that the video screen would provide much more detail of the inner workings of acoustic guitar playing.

I'm currently working on an extensive Vegoose page and expect it to be done in the next week or so. For now, these videos are what you get. Please enjoy this version of Flock of Words and The Inlaw Josie Wales.
